Mission Statement
Be WISE Camp’s mission is to develop interest, excitement, and self-confidence in middle school girls in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). The camp is designed to provide real-life, hands-on experiences in STEM using problem solving and thinking skills. We hope to encourage and motivate the girls to enroll in more STEM classes at the high school and college levels to prepare them for careers in a STEM field.

OUR FOUNDER - JoAnn Benseler
- The first Be WISE (Women in Science Education) Camp was held in the summer of 1989. It was sponsored by the Ohio Division of the American Association of University Women.
- The goal of the camp was to inspire middle school girls into taking as many math and science classes as they could through middle school and high school.
- Girls took classes during the day, and then at night they met together to hear from experts in different science and math areas. They stayed in a college dorm, ate together in a college dining hall, and had classes in science labs.
- Through the past 36 years approximately 3000 girls have attended this camp.
- In 2009, a Day Camp was added to the program to offer a similar experience for girls going into 5th and 6th grades.
